COURSE STRUCTURE
There are eight units to be covered on this course, which leads to the award of BTEC level 2 Diploma. Each unit is assessed by a portfolio of practical work, which the learner builds up over the year. The course is very suitable for those with a little knowledge of electronics or who have worked in related employment.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
GCSEs in Maths, English, Science or equivalent work experience in related engineering employment.
This course involves a large amount of practical hands-on work, so that the student becomes familiar with a range of electronic components and systems together with basic electronic circuits, computers and networks. Much of the practical work will involve building, testing, measuring and recording typical circuits found in everyday products. These topics will be backed-up with support in Functional Skills in Number, English and IT. Successful students may move on to more Advanced Electronics, leading to Higher National or University degree.
The units to be covered:| USING ENGINEERING INFORMATION | Engineering drawings, circuit diagrams |
| MATHEMATICS FOR TECHNICIANS | Algebra, graphs, areas, volumes, trigonometry |
| ELECTRICAL & MECHANICAL SCIENCE | Electricity, forces, kinematics, statics, pressure |
| ELECTRONIC DEVICES & APPLICATIONS | Signals, components, analogue, digital, communications |
| ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT CONSTRUCTION | Components, boards, construction, diagrams |
| PC HARDWARE & SOFTWARE | Operation, I/O devices, software, assemble & test |
| COMPUTER AIDED DRAWING (CAD) | Orthographic, isometric, circuits, CAD software |
