There are five units to be covered on this course which leads to the award of BTEC CERTIFICATE FOR IT USERS. Each unit is assessed by a portfolio of practical work which the student builds up over the year.
IT USER FUNDAMENTALS
Use systems, files & folders. CD, DVD, USB. Viruses, security, passwords, routine IT problems.
WORD PROCESSING SOFTWARE
Enter, edit, combine text and data - store & retrieve. Tables, styles, formats, layouts, checking, correcting.
USING THE INTERNET
Connections, browsers & navigation. Search techniques. Communication. Security.
USING E-MAIL
Prepare and send messages. Attachments. Address book. Replying. Store, delete, organise.
IMPROVING USE OF IT
Plan tasks and systems. Use software applications. Carry out tasks. Mini-project. Review success.
Confident students will also be encouraged to take the FUNCTIONAL SKILLS units, including INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
