Who can apply for these courses?

The programmes offered at LEC are for students who have had substantial previous IT experience, hold advanced level qualifications and who wish to gain a more in-depth knowledge of computing. It would be particularly suitable if you wish to gain a qualification at HE level.

What are the entry requirements?

For the Higher National Certificate/Diploma one of the following:-

Applications from mature students are assessed on individual merit.

Overseas students will require an IELTS Level 5.5 in addition to the above entry requirements.

How long are the courses?

The HNC/HND are flexible two-year part time or full-time courses. Upon successful completion of the first year, students enrolled on the HNC/HND route are awarded an HNC qualification.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment will be a combination of assignments, timed assessments and practicals. Each of the units covered in the courses will carry assignments, all of which must be completed to the required standard within a given deadline for an award to be given. The Higher National qualifications are graded Pass, Merit or Distinction.

What progression opportunities are open to me?

The HND is a nationally recognized qualification. Upon successful completion, admission onto the second or third year of a BSc degree may be possible.
