The course is one year, flexible Full-time or Part-time. You will be required to attend the college for 12 hours per week The exact length of the course depends on how quickly you are able to complete your portfolio.
Practical assignments and practical skills assessment in realistic working environments leading to a level 2 or 3 Diploma in Electronic Engineering equipment servicing and general Engineering Maintenance.
This course is especially suitable for technicians and service engineers who have achieved BTEC National Advanced Engineering with Electronics options and now wish to convert their knowledge, skills and experience into a Maintenance Diploma.
Assessment is entirely by means of practical skills and competence testing using a set of realistic work assignments, at College or at work, building up into a portfolio of individual student's results and evidence. The majority of the competence evidence must come from workplace simulation, replication and support are available from College. You must pass all 6 units.

A wide variety of fault diagnosis and rectification techniques will be developed using a range of sophisticated test equipment including analogue & digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, test-beds, simulators, computer databases, test pattern generators, wobbulators, signal generators, logic probes, logic analysers, storage scopes, transistor testers, portable appliance testers and diagnostic software.

You can progress onto an Maintenance Engineering Diploma level 3 which involves a placement in industry and future possible opportunities of employment with your chosen placement company.

You can progress onto a related course or there may be possibilities of employment with your chosen placement company or in the NHS as a Medical Electronics Technician.
Courses are for up to twelve months but trainees can start at any time if space becomes available. Attendance is normally limited to 12 hours per week leaving trainees claiming the Job Seeker's Allowance time to meet their obligations regarding looking for work.
